Biography
Colleen Lacy (she/they) is a theatre professional with over 40 years of experience in the performing arts. Their work spans roles as a dancer, actor, director, fight director, intimacy director, and stage manager. Colleen holds an MFA in Stage Management from Columbia University School of the Arts in New York City and is a member of Actors’ Equity Association, the professional union representing stage managers and stage actors.
Colleen’s graduate studies emphasized new and devised work, a focus that continues to shape their professional practice. They have stage managed numerous new works, including The Art of War (Pierini, 2025), imagine a u.s. without racism (Sueko, 2022), and Jane Austen’s Northanger Abbey (Meagher, 2019). Colleen brings the same exploratory and audience-centered approach to classical texts, seeking contemporary relevance while amplifying historically silenced voices.
In addition to their professional theatre work, Colleen is an educator in the Theatre and Film Department at American River College in Sacramento, California, where they teach Diversity in American Drama, Introduction to Theatre, and Introduction to Film. They also teach Stage Management and Production Crew in the Theatre Department at Sierra College in Rocklin, California.
